Coffee House Culture

“This is how we live day in, day out. In a coffee house, that is. From 8 in the morning till 2 late at night, an essential part of Viennese life is happening here. Opinions are formed here, as are truisms and – sometimes – mean falsehoods. This is the place you keep coming back to again and again and for any occasion: because you are bitter or in a brilliant mood, because you are feeling bad or all too good, because you are hungry or too full.

This is the Viennese coffee house: everything to everyone. A location for a romantic rendezvous for beginners in matters of the heart, a club for the not-so-dapper guest, a place of business for the person without their own office, a place to dream for those growing or fading, an abode for the person without a home, and a place of human contact for those without family. And all this, this little, peculiar world, steeped in a soft, warm mocha scent – you see: this is coffee house culture.”

Cafe Freud

Viennese coffeehouse tradition combined with a smart furnishing concept: here, the flair of yesteryear meets the design of today.

The former home of its namesake is located in the adjacent building and now houses the Sigmund Freud Museum, which was recently renovated and expanded. We recommend a visit not only to tourists: the exhibition there offers extremely interesting insights into the life of the world-famous founder of psychoanalysis and one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century.

Sigmund Freud’s silhouette is adorning the wall of our large guest room – a tribute to the great personality who had to leave Austria after the German troops invaded in 1938.

Enjoy the finest coffee and tea, delicious Viennese cakes and tarts. Our offer also includes an extensive selection of good wines, Schremser beer from the Waldviertel and other drinks.

Visit us alone or with friends, to study or work: Power sockets and free WIFI are at your disposal! A quiet back room for meetings is also available.

We look forward to your visit!
